Where Am I Going

Taiwan

Where Am I Going is a puppet animation, the protagonist of the story is an old man who repairs screens to make a living. Have you ever wondered how an old man who was neglected by his family and society started his every day? This film did not use mold or 3D printing puppet but used traditional dough figurines, then filmed to animation through stop-motion photography. The lines on the elderly face are obvious; his thick eyelids can hardly bear the wind. The changing of light and shadow not only indirectly brings out the old man's mood, but also implies the passing of his life. His staggering posture fills this story, which has no dialogue nor real actor, with strong emotions. The plot delicately depicts the inner loneliness of the old man; every day he rides a tricycle and broadcasts "Repair screen windows, screen doors, and change glass." through the streets and lanes. Passing the prosperous market, emerging high buildings, the sunset market, and Mazu Temple, same scenes repeating day after day, transforms daily life into a grotesque and magnificent journey, which inspiring the audience to reflect upon how to face the tears of the era, and show more concern for the elderly.
